The History of Trinity
Trinity has been in operation for twenty years. The original charity was founded in 1986 when it offered day-centre facilities to unemployed young people, especially those with problems of homelessness, drug or alcohol abuse or a history of involvement with criminal activity. It was one of a number of community projects housed in the Church Hall at Holy Trinity in Middle Brook Street.
In 1989 it operated for a few months as a mobile service in the Cathedral grounds before moving to its own rented premises at 53 Romsey Road. The first full time Project Manager was appointed in 1990 and in 1991 the then Dean of Winchester, Trevor Beeson, became the first Honorary President of The Trinity Centre.
By 1993 the charity needed to expand and successfully set out to raise £160,000 to purchase a former Edwardian Mission Church building on St Paul’s Hill. It has operated successfully from these premises since 1994. Additional services have been added over the last decade.
The organisation’s name was changed in 2005 to Trinity Winchester to reflect its wider remit.
The Future
In 2009 we move to a new home - The Durngate Centre.
